The compositional structure for Cross-Over is based on three rules: crossing the stage (in a line through center), progressing from low-level to standing, duration six minutes. The term ‘cross-over’ is used in theater and dance to describe the action of a performer who exits on one side of the stage and crosses over behind the stage in order to re-enter the stage from the other side. In Wolfgruber’s solo, however, the cross-over happens on stage thus making visible a process that usually remains hidden from the audience. Cross-Over is an autobiographical work documenting a seven year journey that required immense physical strength, endurance and focus.
